Three-phase power provides significant advantages for solar: EXPORT LIMIT: 11.04kW per phase (33.12kW total) vs 3.68kW on single-phase. This means NO curtailment for systems up to 33kW. INVERTER OPTIONS: three-phase inverters (Fronius, SMA, Huawei) distribute generation evenly. SYSTEM SIZE: practically no limit up to 50kW for domestic installations. WHO HAS THREE-PHASE: large detached homes, farms, rural properties, commercial buildings. Most UK terraced/semi-detached homes are single-phase. UPGRADING: single to three-phase costs £3,000-£5,000 from your DNO. Only worthwhile for systems above 10kW where export limitation becomes significant. For most homeowners (4-8kW systems): single-phase is fine — export limitation has minimal impact with a battery.
