Solar Export Limitation Explained

What is solar export limitation?
Export limitation means your DNO caps how much electricity you can send back to the grid — typically at 3.68kW (single phase). This does NOT limit how much you GENERATE — only how much you EXPORT at any moment. Impact: On a sunny day, a 6kW system generating 5kW while you use 1kW wants to export 4kW — but is limited to 3.68kW. Result: 0.32kW is 'curtailed' (wasted). Annual curtailment on a 6kW system: typically 1-5% of total generation. With a battery: almost zero curtailment because surplus charges the battery instead of exporting. Bottom line: export limitation is a minor issue for most homes and should NOT stop you installing a larger system.
