How do I estimate my roof space?

Quick estimate: roof width × slope height ÷ 2 = approximate usable area. Subtract space for chimneys, skylights, vents. Or: number of tiles visible on one slope × 0.04 = approximate m². Your installer measures precisely.

What if my roof is too small?

Use both roof slopes (east-west split), add panels to a detached garage, or consider ground-mounted panels in the garden. Even 5 panels (2kW) deliver worthwhile savings.

How much roof space do I need for solar?

Each solar panel needs approximately 2m² of roof space (1.7m² panel + spacing). A 4kW system (10 panels): ~20m². A 5kW system (13 panels): ~26m². A 6kW system (16 panels): ~32m². Most 3-bed UK homes have 15-22m² of usable roof on one slope — enough for 8-11 panels (3.2-4.4kW). Your installer measures exact usable area during the free site survey, accounting for chimneys, skylights, vents, and edge setbacks.
