New UK homes must meet Part L regulations requiring ~31% carbon reduction. Most developers install 1-2kW solar (minimum compliance, 3-6 panels). This saves £200-£300/year — less than optimal. For real savings: request a developer solar upgrade to 4-5kW (10-13 panels). Cost as upgrade during build: £2,000-£4,000 (much cheaper than retrofit). Also check: panel brand, inverter type (hybrid = battery-ready), MCS certification, and monitoring setup.
