Can council tenants get solar panels?

Solar panels on council houses: AS A TENANT: you CANNOT install solar on a council house without council permission (it's their property). However, many UK councils are proactively installing solar on their housing stock. If your council has a solar programme, you may get free or discounted solar. COUNCIL PROGRAMMES: funded by Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), ECO4 scheme, or council capital budgets. Tenants benefit from: free electricity from panels, lower energy bills, improved EPC rating, warmer home. AS A RIGHT TO BUY OWNER: if you've purchased your council house, you can install solar as you own the property. Standard permitted development rules apply. WHAT TO DO: contact your council housing department and ask about their solar/energy efficiency programme. Many have waiting lists for solar installation.
