Solar Panels and Damp

Do solar panels cause damp?
Solar panels do NOT cause damp. In fact, they PROTECT the roof beneath them: panels shield tiles from rain, wind, and UV — reducing moisture exposure and extending tile life. Damp in UK homes is caused by: (1) Poor ventilation (most common). (2) Rising damp from foundations. (3) Penetrating damp from damaged walls/roof. (4) Condensation from cooking, bathing, drying clothes. None of these are related to solar panels. The air gap between panels and roof (50-100mm) actually improves roof ventilation. If you notice damp after solar installation: it's coincidence, not causation — investigate ventilation, guttering, and flashing as usual.
