Can solar panels charge my phone?

Charging a smartphone uses 0.01-0.02kWh per full charge. Cost on grid: 0.2-0.5p per charge. Cost on solar: FREE. A 4kW solar system generates 10-20kWh per day in summer — that is 500-2,000 phone charges worth of electricity. Even on the darkest winter day: 1-2kWh = 50-200 charges. Your solar panels generate so much energy relative to a phone that phone charging is essentially irrelevant to your solar economics. But it's a nice thought: your phone runs entirely on sunshine. For off-grid or portable use: a small 20W solar panel (£30-£50) with USB output charges a phone in 2-3 hours of direct sunlight.
