(3) LISTED BUILDING — most thatched properties are listed, requiring consent. (4) INSURANCE — insuring solar on thatch is difficult and expensive. (5) MAINTENANCE — panels obstruct re-thatching (needed every 15-30 years). Best alternatives: GROUND-MOUNTED solar in the garden (£6,000-£12,000 for 4-6kW). OUTBUILDING ROOF — install on a garage, barn, or purpose-built solar shed. Some specialist companies offer solutions, but cost is significantly higher (£2,000-£5,000 extra).
