Grid-Tied Solar System: How It Works
Independently written

What is a grid-tied solar system?
A grid-tied solar system is connected to the national electricity grid. When your panels generate more than you use, surplus exports to the grid (earning SEG income). When panels do not generate enough (night, winter), you import from the grid at the normal rate. This is the standard configuration for 99%+ of UK residential solar. The grid acts as a backup — you are never without power. Alternative: off-grid systems exist but cost 2-3x more and require large battery banks.
