Should I rewire before installing solar?

If your home needs rewiring, do it BEFORE installing solar: WHY: (1) Your solar inverter connects to the consumer unit (fuse box). A rewire replaces the consumer unit — meaning your solar connection would need redoing. (2) A new consumer unit has spare ways for the solar AC isolator and generation meter. (3) Modern wiring supports higher loads (heat pump, EV charger, battery) more safely. (4) Rewiring with solar already installed means the electrician must work around the solar connection — adding cost. TIMING: Rewire first (£3,000-£6,000 for a typical 3-bed house). Then install solar (£5,500-£9,000). If your wiring is fine: solar can be installed on any standard UK consumer unit with a spare way. Your MCS installer checks this during the site survey.
