Can you put solar panels on a timber frame house?

Solar panels work perfectly on timber frame houses: (1) MOUNTING — panels attach to roof rafters via standard hooks — identical to masonry construction. Timber frame rafters are equally suitable. (2) WEIGHT — solar panels add 12-15 kg/m² to the roof. Modern timber frames are designed for this additional load (tile weight is already 40-60 kg/m²). (3) NO STRUCTURAL CONCERNS — any house built to UK building regulations (post-1990) easily supports solar panels. Older timber frames: get a structural check (£200-£400). (4) INSULATION — timber frame homes are often better insulated than masonry, meaning lower heating costs AND more roof space for solar. (5) NEW BUILD — if building a timber frame house, design the roof pitch and orientation for solar from the start.
